    About the Bradbury Science Museum Association

    The Bradbury Science Museum Association (BSMA) supports the mission of the Bradbury Science Museum (BSM) through membership programs, community events, STEAM education, and its on-site gift shop. We are seeking a motivated, organized, and personable Executive Director to lead our small but impactful organization on a part-time basis.

    Position Summary

    The Executive Director (ED) is the face of the BSMA to the community, responsible for the day-to-day operations of BSMA, including membership management, event planning and coordination and oversight of gift shop staff and operations. Additionally, the ED will collaborate closely with the BSMA Board and BSM staff on community-focused STEAM education programs. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-starter who enjoys wearing multiple hats, engaging with the community and supporting science education and outreach in Los Alamos and surrounding communities.

    Key Responsibilities

    Membership Management

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for current and prospective members
    • Process new memberships, renewals, and related communications
    • Maintain accurate membership records and database
    • Develop strategies to grow and retain membership
    • Prepare periodic reports on membership metrics for the Board

    Community Outreach and Event Coordination

    • Be active in the community in support of BSMA events and STEAM education goals
    • Plan, organize, and execute BSMA events, fundraisers and member activities in collaboration with BSM and the BSMA events committee
    • Coordinate logistics including venue, vendors, volunteers and scheduling
    • Promote events through newsletters, social media and community partners
    • Evaluate event outcomes and gather feedback for continuous improvement

    Gift Shop Oversight

    • Work with manager of the Gadgets gift shop to support gift shop staff and/or volunteers
    • Assist with inventory management, merchandising and vendor relationships

    Administrative & Board Support

    • Attend Board meetings and provide regular updates on operations
    • Working with the Board Treasurer, assist with budget tracking and financial reporting as needed
    • Explore and lead opportunities for additional funding (such as grant writing, fundraising initiatives and community partnerships)
    • Maintain organizational files, correspondence and records

    Qualifications

    • Passion for science education and community engagement
    • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
    • Prior experience in nonprofit management, museum operations, retail management or a related field
    • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Comfortable working with volunteers, staff, and the public
    • Proficiency with standard office and database software (e.g., Microsoft Office, membership/CRM platforms)
    • Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends for events

    Teachers - Bring your students Bradbury Science Museum! BSMA is now accepting applications for bus scholarships to cover the cost of field trip transportation to the Bradbury.
